Physical & Health Education in the MYP

MYP Physical and Health Education courses foster the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes that will contribute to a student’s balanced and healthy lifestyle. Through opportunities for active learning, courses in this subject group embody and promote the holistic nature of well-being. Through physical and health education, students can learn to appreciate and respect the ideas of others, and develop effective collaboration and communication skills. This subject area also offers many opportunities to build positive interpersonal relationships that can help students to develop a sense of social responsibility.

MYP 1 - Physical and Health Education (Grade 6)

The course will be practical based and inquiry-driven and the teaching strategies and learning experiences will build upon the units students may have experienced in the PYP. Students will focus on the three key concepts taught in Physical Education; Change, communication and relationships. These will be assessed through the four criteria; Knowing and understanding, planning for performance, applying and performing and reflecting and improving. Students will gain knowledge through practical activities and will be assessed through a variety of different mediums. 

MYP 2 - Physical and Health Education (Grade 7)

The course will be practical based and inquiry-driven and the teaching strategies and learning experiences will build upon the units students may have experienced in the MYP 1. Students will focus on the three key concepts taught in Physical Education; Change, communication and relationships. These will be assessed through the four criteria; Knowing and understanding, planning for performance, applying and performing and reflecting and improving. Students will gain knowledge through practical activities and will be assessed through a variety of different mediums.

MYP 3 - Physical and Health Education (Grade 8)

The course will be practical based and inquiry-driven and the teaching strategies and learning experiences will build upon the units students may have experienced in the MYP 2. Students will focus on the three key concepts taught in Physical Education; Change, communication and relationships. MYP 4 – Physical and Health Education (Grade 9)
